10 Reasons You Should Not Build Your Own Website
Some people think it’s easy to build a website. There are many website developer tools available that allow you to drag and drop pictures, and insert wording. Keep in mind that that these tools use templates that are generic, and not specifically designed to meet your business needs. Web development requires behind the scenes coding that’s done by skilled web developers. There are plenty of DIY projects that you can tackle yourself; Here are 10 reasons why building your business’s website should not be one of them.
Reason #1: Customization
Free website templates and DIY web builders cannot be customized, are very basic, and are not interactive. If you wanted to add an extra feature or additional content, a basic website template or web builder wouldn’t give you this option. If you think you’re the first person to benefit from a free website builder, think again–there are thousands of other companies that have made the mistake of using the same, boring, generic template. Now you’re stuck with a site that looks like everyone else’s. How unique is that?
Reason #2: Efficiency
Web development hard work, and it takes a long time to build a great website. If you’re not a professional web developer, the hours upon hours you spend trying to create a website could be more efficiently spent generating business and growing your client base. Why not let someone with experience and knowledge build it, it’ll save you time and money.
Reason #3: Professionalism
It’s simple, a website made by an experienced web developer will look professional.
Reason #4: Search Engine Optimization
We all know what SEO means but do you know how to set it up? SEO allows exposure of your website to potential clients which is crucial for business. Your website needs to be appealing to search engines like Google. Google does not crawl DIY sites; they’re too busy ranking optimized pages.
Reason #5: Not Google Friendly
With a DIY site builder, Google can’t verify your site in Webmaster Tools. Google uses complex algorithms that might be too advanced for some people, but for a professional web developer who uses Google Webmaster Tools or Google Analytics, it can be used to monitor site downtime, crawl rates, bounce ratings, load times, broken links and search traffic.
Reason #6: Poor Analytics
Older scripting technologies (often used by DIY site builders) have inaccurate site analytics. Site analytics reports give a picture of your websites performance and traffic. Clients can view monthly reports, and read notes that explain how their site is doing.
Reason #7: Mobile-Unfriendly
Self-built sites that don’t have a lot of databases or graphics, usually aren’t mobile friendly. How many people do you know nowadays that use their desktop computer? The majority of people browse the we using their phones/mobile device out of convenience, so your site should accommodate that.
Reason #8: Faster is Not Better
With most DIY website builders, you can create a site in about 30 minutes. That’s less time than most pizza joints take to deliver a pizza. Doesn’t your company’s website deserve more time and effort than a pizza? Your website is usually the first stop that people visit to learn about your business. A quality website takes weeks or months to build, depending on the size and scope of the project.
Reason #9: Advertisements
If you’re a fan of those nice big banner ads that say “THIS SITE WAS CREATED BY FREEWEBSITES.COM
! GET YOURS FOR FREE TODAY!” By all means, go for the free template route. It looks unprofessional and makes your business look cheap.
Reason #10: Experience
