Renowned Internationally as the foremost of contemporary and modern art fairs, Art Basel has made South Beach, Miami its North American home. Now in its 15th year, it has grown exponentially, with over 267 exhibitors drawing tens of thousands of tourists to the Miami Beach area. This week will mark my second time seeing the show in all its grandeur, and now that I have an idea of what to expect, I am even more excited than I was the first time I attended in 2014.
Project Manager Orlando is flying in for this Art Basel Miami, and I’ll be picking him up from Orlando Airport tonight. It’s interesting how the sequence of events last year led us to this extraordinary exhibition. They say there is a reason behind everything, and there is no such thing as a coincidence–I believe stumbling upon Art Basel last year counts as one of those times.
When I walked into Collins Park on the first night of Art Basel last year, I was among thousands of others who were awestruck by the sculptures that graced the grounds. So much detail went into these pieces–not only in the physical works but the lighting and placement as well. It was obvious that there was a strategy in place to ensure that these pieces would draw the attention of the many attendees during the show.
Artwork of all forms resonates with me. You may have noticed some of my photography in the past, or my affinity (obsession) for Andy Warhol. While it’s true that I am a businessman by nature, I am also an artist and combine the two personas at every opportunity I can. Art is subjective for some, but the most successful artists, like the ones at Art Basel Miami, have made a name for themselves by creating works that stand out. Whether they’re sculptors, designers, painters or performance artists, they’ve made their style distinctively different from other artists. Branding, one of A Nerd’s World’s most popular services is truly an art. Like artists, businesses of every size need to build brand recognition to maintain a competitive edge in today’s marketplace. From logos and website design to slogans–even distinctive typography, establishing a strong brand can significantly contribute to the success of your business. Additionally, branding is how your audience perceives the value or quality of your product or service. It serves to trigger emotional responses in your customers to draw them in. Our developers collaborate with our clients and brainstorm ideas for websites. Everything starts with a piece of inspiration or a little sketch on scrap paper. Although we’re a digital agency, our creative roots run deep, and every employee at A Nerd’s World is an artist.
Since I don’t want Orlando to be left waiting at the airport, I’ll sign off for now. If you can’t make it down to Miami this week, stay tuned to our Instagram and Twitter feeds as we’ll be sure to give you regular updates of our adventure. Until then I will leave you with a quote that coincidentally (or not) is fitting for this occasion.
“Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.” – Andy Warhol
